About our elite kensington 4ft wide lean-to greenhouses
Elite Kensington 4ft Wide Lean-To Greenhouses improve narrow spaces into productive growing areas. Standing 7ft 3" (2235mm) tall at the ridge with a 4ft 3" width, these compact aluminium structures fit perfectly against walls, fences, or building sides where traditional freestanding models won't work. The generous 5ft 10" (1800mm) eaves height at the front ensures plenty of headroom, even in such a slim structure. Available in lengths from 4ft to 10ft, you'll find options for balconies, small patios, or long side passages.
Why We Chose This Range
“We curating the Elite Kensington 4ft for the 'High-Yield side passage' dilemma. While the Windsor is built for low-soffits, the Kensington is built for maximum air volume. We chose this model because it’s a professional-grade structure with bar-capping and low-threshold access as standard. For serious growers with limited floor space, the extra 8 inches of ridge height over the Windsor makes a massive difference in stopping heat-stall during the height of summer.”
, Matt, Founder of Greenhouse StoresThe collection features 10 powder-coated colour options (including black, green, and silver), 3mm horticultural or toughened glazing, and built-in guttering to protect your property from water damage. Every model includes at least one roof vent and one louvre vent for proper airflow. You can choose between a standard flat sill for mounting onto a pre-built brick wall, or the official 5-inch high Elite base plinth for easy installation onto flat surfaces like paving or concrete.

Choosing your elite kensington 4ft wide lean-to greenhouse
Matt's installation tip: the "chimney" effect
Because the Kensington 4ft is relatively tall and narrow, it can suffer from rapid heat build-up. I always advise adding a louvre vent low down on the front panel. This allows cool air to enter at ground level while the roof vent handles the exhaust, creating a natural chimney effect that is vital for tomato health.
Also, ensure your wall anchors are checked with a spirit level. If your wall leans 'out' even slightly, it will pull the top wall-bar away from the roof glass. I recommend using heavy-duty M6 masonry bolts rather than standard plugs to account for the extra wind use that the 7ft 3" ridge height creates. Read our full wall prep guide here.
Size selection
The 4x4 model suits herb gardens or seasonal plant propagation. The 4x6 provides staging on one side with comfortable walking space. Larger 4x10 versions work brilliantly as extensive potting areas or winter storage for tender perennials. Every additional 2ft of length adds roughly 8 square feet of growing space.
Glazing options
Standard 3mm horticultural glass offers clarity and heat retention at the entry price point. Toughened glass (4mm safety-rated) is highly recommended for lean-tos near patios, doorways, or child play areas. Twin-wall polycarbonate provides superior insulation (up to 60% better heat retention than glass) but costs approximately 15-10% more than standard glazing.
The base challenge
You must decide how to mount your Kensington. The Flat Sill option is designed for sitting on top of a dwarf wall. The easiest solution for most gardeners is the 5-inch high Elite Base Plinth. This aluminium plinth clicks directly onto the greenhouse frame, providing the necessary 5 inches of height to bolt down to concrete or paving slabs. Our How to Build a Greenhouse Base guide covers both methods.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
What is the advantage of the Kensington's height?
The 7ft 3" ridge provides extra air volume, which helps regulate temperature better than lower models. It also allows you to grow taller cordon tomatoes and cucumbers that need significant vertical support.
-
Will it fit under my bungalow eaves?
The Kensington is 7ft 3" high. If your eaves are lower than this, we recommend the Elite Windsor, which is 6ft 7" high. Always measure to the lowest point of your soffit before ordering.
-
Do I need to anchor it to the wall?
Yes. For safety and structural integrity, the frame must be anchored to a solid masonry wall. We provide a 20-year warranty on the framework when installed correctly on a suitable foundation and wall.
-
What's the difference between the 4ft and 6ft wide Kensington?
The 4ft model measures 4ft 3" wide externally, well suited to narrow side passages. The 6ft wide version provides 50% more floor area, allowing comfortable staging on both sides.
