Metal Sheds

A Metal Shed is the ultimate low-maintenance security solution, but only if the steel is right. We refuse to stock budget "electro-galvanised" sheds that rust at the seams. Our collection features Hot-Dipped Galvanised Steel, where the zinc coating is chemically bonded to the metal, stopping corrosion for 20+ years. With superior fire resistance and heavy-duty locking mechanisms, these structures are ideal for caravan parks and storing high-value equipment like ride-on mowers and motorcycles.

Why buy metal sheds from Greenhouse Stores

A metal shed gives you security and low upkeep in one structure. Ours are galvanised steel, so nothing needs painting or treating. A wooden shed wants a coat of preservative every year. A metal one does not.

We stock 77 metal buildings across two brands, Hörmann and Telluria. Sizes run from a 5.5x4 store up to a garage that holds a car. Prices start at £2,250. For zero upkeep with a softer look, see our plastic sheds. For security and fire resistance, steel still wins.

The Hörmann advantage: premium security

Hörmann sit at the security end of the range. Panels are 0.5mm to 0.75mm steel, against 0.25mm in budget sheds. Door frames are reinforced and the locks are cylinder type.

An integrated floor frame lets you bolt down to concrete without pulling the walls out of square. The Berry and Juno ranges both come in pent and apex roofs. Steel is hot-dip galvanised, and the rust warranty runs 20 years.

The Telluria advantage: double-walled steel

Telluria build in Belgium and answer the one real weakness of metal: condensation. Every panel is double-walled, with a cavity between two skins of steel. That cavity slows the temperature swing that makes a single-skin shed sweat.

An aluminium base frame is included with every building. The finish is powder-coated Anthracite, Light Grey or White, and the doors lock. Cover runs 10 years against perforation. The range reaches well past sheds. There are glazed Luminato buildings, enclosed Lounge garden rooms, two garage sizes and matching fence panels.

Why We Chose This Range

“These two brands solve different problems, which is why we carry both. Hörmann is about steel thickness. Most cheap metal sheds feel wobbly when you open the door. A Hörmann feels like a car door, and the integrated floor frame makes bolting down straightforward. Telluria went after condensation instead. They double-walled the panel rather than selling you a vent kit afterwards. If the shed is for tools and a mower, buy the Hörmann. If you want to sit in it, or store anything that hates damp, pay the extra for the Telluria.”

Matt's Pick is the Berry 10x8 Apex. It is the smallest Hörmann that takes a ride-on mower and still leaves bench space. Go smaller and you end up shuffling things to reach the back wall.

Matt's installation tip: the condensation cure

Steel conducts cold, so a single-skin shed drips on the roof underside in winter. That is physics, not a fault. Break the thermal bridge and it stops.

Stick 25mm polystyrene sheets to the roof underside with spray adhesive. It costs little and takes twenty minutes. On a Telluria you can skip this, because the cavity in the panel already does the job. Whichever you buy, bolt the shed down. A metal shed is light, and an unanchored one will fold in a winter gale.

Frequently asked questions about metal sheds

  • Will my metal shed rust?

Not if the steel is hot-dip galvanised, which all of ours is. Cheap sheds are electro-galvanised, a thin spray that fails at the seams. Ours are dipped in molten zinc, so the coating bonds to the steel. Hörmann carry a 20-year rust warranty. Telluria carry 10 years against perforation.

  • How do I stop condensation in a metal shed?

Ventilate it, then insulate the roof, or buy a double-walled Telluria. Fit the roof vent supplied, and leave a 10mm gap under the door for airflow. On a single-skin shed, glue 25mm polystyrene to the roof interior. Telluria panels have the cavity built in, so they hold the inner surface nearer the air temperature.

  • Should I buy Hörmann or Telluria?

Hörmann for secure tool storage, Telluria for damp-sensitive kit or a room you sit in. Hörmann use thicker steel and cost less, starting at £2,250. Telluria start at £5,099 and add double-walled panels, an aluminium base frame and a choice of three colours. Telluria also make garden rooms, garages and fencing.

  • Do I need a concrete base for a metal shed?

Yes. A metal shed cannot go on grass, soil or loose gravel. It needs a level concrete or paved base so you can bolt it down with anchors. Get it flat before delivery day. On a 3000mm building, a 10mm fall stops the doors meeting cleanly.

  • Are metal sheds secure?

Yes, more so than timber, because there is nothing soft to prise or cut. Both brands use cylinder locks and reinforced door frames. Bolt the shed to its base from the inside. It then cannot be lifted or walked away without the key.

  • How long does a metal shed take to build?

Roughly four to five hours for two people on an 8x6. There are a lot of panels and screws. The larger Telluria buildings take a full day. The base is what decides it. If the base is out of level, the screw holes will not line up.
