Sheds

About our garden sheds

We stock over 500 garden sheds across three material types, with prices starting from £299 for a compact wooden shed. Our wooden sheds use 12mm tongue-and-groove cladding with 15-year pressure treatment, not the cheap overlap panels that warp after one winter. Our plastic sheds from Palram and Lifetime use UV-stabilised polycarbonate and HDPE that never needs painting. Our metal sheds from Lotus and Hormann use hot-dipped galvanised steel, not the electro-galvanised metal that rusts within three years.

We carry every common size from 4ft x 4ft tool stores up to 20ft x 10ft workshops, in both apex and pent roof styles. Need specialist storage? See our bike sheds, potting sheds, and garden workshops.

Frequently asked questions about garden sheds

• How much does a garden shed cost?

Garden sheds start from £299 for a compact 4x4 wooden shed. A standard 8x6 wooden shed costs £400–£700. Plastic sheds range from £535 to £2,500 depending on size. Premium metal sheds from Hormann start at £3,099. Swallow thermowood potting sheds run from £3,519 to £7,996. All prices include free UK delivery.

• What is the best material for a garden shed?

It depends on your priorities, there is no single best material. Wooden sheds offer natural insulation and easy customisation (add shelves, hooks, and electrics). Plastic sheds last longest with zero maintenance, ideal for coastal areas or people who don't want annual upkeep. Metal sheds provide the highest security for storing expensive equipment like bikes and power tools.

• Do I need planning permission for a garden shed?

Most garden sheds qualify as Permitted Development. No planning application is needed if the shed is under 2.5m high at the eaves (for flat/pent roofs near boundaries), covers less than 50% of your garden, and sits within your property boundary. Conservation Areas and Listed Buildings have stricter rules, always check with your local council before ordering.

• What base do I need for a shed?

Every shed needs a solid, level base, never build on bare grass or soil. Concrete slabs or paving slabs laid on compacted hardcore are ideal. For wooden sheds, a timber bearer frame on slabs allows airflow underneath the floor. For metal and plastic sheds, you need a solid surface with anchor bolt holes. We sell Fastfit floor kits from £89 that provide a quick base solution for wooden sheds.

• Which is better: apex or pent roof?

Apex roofs give more headroom; pent roofs work better against walls and fences. An apex (peaked) roof sheds water to both sides and provides maximum standing height in the centre. A pent (single-slope) roof directs water to one side and sits lower at the back, making it ideal for boundary positions where height restrictions apply under Permitted Development rules.

• How long does a wooden shed last?

A pressure-treated wooden shed lasts 15-25 years with minimal maintenance. Our Power sheds come with 15-year anti-rot pressure treatment as standard. Untreated or dip-treated sheds need annual preservative application and typically last 5-10 years. Swallow thermowood potting sheds use heat-treated timber that lasts 30+ years without any treatment.

• How secure are your garden sheds?

Our sheds use internally bolted hinges that cannot be unscrewed from outside. Wooden sheds include rim locks as standard. For maximum security, our windowless metal sheds from Lotus and Hormann use multi-point locking systems and are built from heavy-gauge galvanised steel that resists forced entry. We also sell dedicated security sheds with reinforced cladding and deadbolts.
