About our low height lean-to greenhouses
Low height lean-to greenhouses are specifically designed for properties with height restrictions, fitting neatly under bungalow windows, against low garden walls, or on balconies. These compact structures measure just 4ft 3" wide and use your existing wall's thermal mass to maintain stable growing temperatures while saving valuable garden space.
Our collection features aluminium-framed models with a choice of 10 powder-coated colours, allowing you to match your property's exterior. Both Elite Windsor 4ft Wide Lean-To Greenhouses and Elite Kensington 4ft Wide Greenhouses come with 3mm horticultural or toughened safety glass and integrated roof vents for temperature control. The Kensington models include an additional louvre vent and 4ft aluminium shelf for extra versatility.
Choosing your low height lean-to greenhouse
The primary decision is between the Windsor and Kensington ranges. Windsor models start from £429 and provide excellent value with a roof vent and your choice of glazing. Kensington models (from £1,099) add a louvre vent for improved airflow and include a 4ft aluminium shelf, making them better suited for serious propagation work.
For glazing, 3mm horticultural glass offers 90% light transmission and traditional aesthetics, while 4mm toughened safety glass provides added security and shatter resistance. If your greenhouse will be positioned where children play or in high-traffic areas, toughened glass is worth the investment.

Why We Chose This Range
“We prioritize the Elite Windsor and Kensington for this category because they are true 'Low Ridge' specialists. Many competitors simply chop the legs off a standard greenhouse, which makes the door too short to walk through. Elite re-engineers the roof pitch, keeping the door height usable (approx 6ft) while keeping the ridge under the critical 2015mm mark. It’s the only design that saves your window view without breaking your back.”
, Matt, Founder of Greenhouse StoresMatt's Installation Tip: The "Opening Window" Check
Fitting under a sill is one thing; opening the window is another. Most uPVC windows open outwards.
If your window opens outwards, you need at least 50mm clearance between the top of the greenhouse ridge and the underside of the open window frame. If it's too tight, you won't be able to vent your house in summer. Measure from the ground to the underside of the open window sash, not just the brick sill, to be 100% safe.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
What height restrictions do these greenhouses accommodate?
These models are designed for precisely this situation. The Elite low-ridge models have a peak height of just 6ft 7" (2.01m), allowing them to fit neatly under most standard UK window sills and bungalow eaves while still providing usable growing space.
-
How do I seal the gap between the greenhouse and my wall?
We recommend using a roll of lead flashing or self-adhesive flashing tape. Chase this into the mortar line above the greenhouse ridge and smooth it down over the greenhouse roof. This creates a waterproof seal that stops rain running down your house wall and inside the greenhouse.
-
What's the difference between Windsor and Kensington models?
Windsor models provide excellent value with a roof vent and choice of glazing. Kensington models add a louvre vent for cross-ventilation, include a 4ft aluminium shelf, and offer slightly more solid frame construction, ideal for propagation.
-
Can I install this greenhouse myself?
Yes, these greenhouses are designed for DIY installation with two people and basic tools. Assembly typically takes 4-6 hours depending on the model size. Professional installation is also available nationwide.
-
How much does a low height lean-to greenhouse cost?
Prices start from £429 for a basic Windsor model with horticultural glass and extend to £2,199 for premium Kensington models with toughened glass and extended lengths.
