About our halls popular greenhouses
For nearly 30 years, Halls Popular greenhouses have served as a standard entry-level choice for gardeners requiring a basic structure for seasonal growing. These compact aluminium frames provide the fundamental requirements for a 6ft-wide space: single sliding doors, standard roof vents, and integral gutters. They are frequently found in allotments and gardens across Britain where a simple, no-frills solution is required for year-round cultivation.
Why We Chose This Range
“The Halls Popular is a functional, low-cost option for those just starting out. It is a traditional mill-finish structure that focuses on the absolute essentials of greenhouse gardening. It serves its purpose as a straightforward 'first greenhouse' for those prioritising a budget-conscious entry into the hobby.”
, Matt, Founder of Greenhouse StoresAvailable in four standard sizes, 6x4, 6x6, 6x8, and 6x10, each model features a lightweight aluminium frame available in silver, green, or black finishes. Every unit includes free UK delivery and a 12-year manufacturer's warranty, offering a dependable, albeit basic, foundation for seedlings and standard garden crops.

While the Halls Popular is a functional starter, many gardeners trade up for these technical advantages:
- The Vitavia Venus Advantage: The primary benefit is the anodised aluminium frame. Unlike standard mill-finish frames that can turn dull or rough over time, the anodisation keeps the silver frame bright and resistant to oxidisation. It also features roof bracing and a low-threshold base option to remove trip hazards.
- The Elite High Eave Advantage: This is the professional’s choice. With a 1585mm eave height, it provides nearly 400mm more vertical space than the Popular, making it ideal for tall vine crops. It is built with high-tensile bolts and double-box sections, backed by a 20-year warranty.
Matt's Installation Tip: Base Preparation
The Halls Popular is a lightweight frame that relies entirely on a perfectly level foundation. Because it lacks the structural mass of premium ranges, even a 5mm deviation in your base will cause the door to bind or jump its track.
I always recommend the optional galvanised steel base. It provides an essential rigid plinth that secures the structure, helping to compensate for the frame's standard lightweight design. Read our full base guide here.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
What sizes are available in the Halls Popular range?
The Halls Popular comes in four 6ft-wide sizes: 6x4 (2.5m²), 6x6 (3.8m²), 6x8 (5.0m²), and 6x10 (6.2m²). All models share the same 6ft width, with only the length varying to suit different garden spaces and growing ambitions.
-
How much does a Halls Popular greenhouse cost?
Prices start from £450 for the 6x4 with standard horticultural glass, rising to around £850 for larger models with polycarbonate glazing. Toughened safety glass typically sits mid-range at £550-£700, depending on size. Free UK mainland delivery is included with every order.
-
Which glazing option should I choose?
Horticultural glass offers traditional clarity at the lowest cost but breaks into sharp shards. Toughened safety glass provides full-length panes and shatters safely, making it 40% more impact-resistant. Polycarbonate delivers the best insulation and safety, virtually unbreakable and retaining 34% more heat than glass.
-
Does it need planning permission?
Most models fall under permitted development if under 2.5m high and more than 2m from boundaries. Restrictions apply in conservation areas or listed buildings. Always check your local council's planning portal before purchasing.
