About the elite roots & shoots raised bed range
The Elite Roots & Shoots Raised Bed is the definitive permanent growing solution for gardeners tired of the "rot-and-replace" cycle of timber planters. Engineered from high-grade extruded aluminium in Bolton, these beds provide superior soil temperature regulation and optimum drainage for herbs and shallow-rooted vegetables. Available in three modular sizes and 12 powder-coated finishes, they are designed to perfectly complement the Elite greenhouse range while being backed by an industry-leading 20-year warranty.
Why We Chose This Range
“We curating the Elite Roots & Shoots range because the garden planter market is flooded with 'disposable' timber and thin-gauge steel beds. We chose this range because it uses the same architectural-grade aluminium found in Elite’s storm-rated greenhouses. For gardeners who have invested in a premium greenhouse, these beds offer the only way to achieve a perfectly colour-matched, professional-grade aesthetic across the entire kitchen garden. They are essentially a 'buy-once, grow-forever' investment.”

Matt's Installation Tip: The "Internal Membrane" Rule
While the extruded aluminium won't rot, the soil inside is alive. I always recommend lining the internal walls with a heavy-duty geotextile membrane (leaving the bottom open for drainage). This prevents fine soil particles from potentially weeping through the corner joins during heavy rain, keeping your patio or gravel area perfectly clean.
If you choose the UPVC Bar Capping option, ensure you snap it into place *before* filling the bed with soil. The weight of the soil slightly tensions the frame, and fitting the capping first ensures a precision, factory-level finish that won't budge for the next 20 years.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
What are the benefits of an aluminium raised bed?
Aluminium is 100% rot-proof, rust-proof, and does not leach chemicals into your soil like some treated timbers can. The extruded sections provide immense strength against soil pressure, and the powder-coated finish ensures it remains a decorative feature in your garden for decades.
-
Can I match the colour to my greenhouse?
Yes. We offer 12 powder-coated finishes, including the most popular Elite colours like Olive Green, Anthracite Grey, and Berry. This allows for a smooth architectural look throughout your garden.
-
Do these beds have a floor?
No, these beds are open-bottomed to allow for natural drainage and for roots to access the ground soil. If you are placing them on a patio, we recommend using a liner to protect the surface from soil staining.
-
What sizes does the Roots and Shoots raised bed come in?
The beds come in 2x2, 2x4 and 2x6. The 2x2 suits a patio corner or a herb plot, and the 2x6 gives a long run for veg. They are all the same powder-coated aluminium that will not rot.
-
How much do the Roots and Shoots raised beds cost?
The 2x2 starts at £110, rising to £199 for the 2x6. They arrive flat-packed and bolt together in minutes. The colour matches the Elite greenhouse range.
