Frequently asked questions about bespoke greenhouses

• Do I need planning permission for a greenhouse in my garden?

  In most cases, no. Greenhouses are usually considered "Permitted Development" provided they meet height and location restrictions, such as not being in front of your house or exceeding 50% of your garden area. Always check with your local council if you live in a Conservation Area.

• How close to a boundary can I build a greenhouse UK?

  You can build close to a boundary, but if the structure is within 2 metres of the boundary line, the maximum height of the greenhouse (including the roof ridge) must not exceed 2.5 metres to comply with Permitted Development rights.

• Does a greenhouse need a concrete base?

  Yes, heavy-duty bespoke greenhouses require a solid, level foundation. A perimeter concrete strip or a solid concrete pad is recommended to support the weight of the glass and frame. Alternatively, some models can be installed on a dedicated box section base plinth on top of slabs.

• Is it cheaper to build your own greenhouse or buy a kit?

  Buying a kit is generally more cost-effective and safer than building from scratch. Our bespoke kits, starting from £1425, include engineered structural integrity, toughened safety glass, and warranties that self-builds cannot match, so your investment lasts for decades.

• What is the best direction for a greenhouse to face?

  For summer crops like tomatoes, a North-South ridge orientation is best to prevent overheating. For winter crops and early spring starts, an East-West orientation captures the most sunlight. Position the door away from prevailing winds where possible.
