Expert guidance: the palram canopia san remo sun room

The Palram Canopia San Remo is a premium veranda system engineered to function as a smooth home extension or high-performance sun lounge. Featuring high-impact crystal-clear acrylic walls and an 8mm twin-wall polycarbonate roof, it offers professional-grade insulation and 100% UV protection. To maintain lounge-level comfort during the winter, we recommend browsing our Greenhouse Heaters, or explore our Greenhouse Accessories for automatic ventilation upgrades.

Expert Note: If you live in a very windy or coastal spot, we recommend that you buy a Toughened Glass Greenhouse for maximum weight and stability.

Why We Chose This Range

“We stock the Palram San Remo because it represents the transition from a 'greenhouse' to a 'living space'. While most lean-tos are purely functional for growing, the San Remo is designed for comfort. We specifically chose this model for its lockable triple-side access and the 8mm roof panels; these provide the thermal buffering needed to keep the space usable in early spring or late autumn, effectively acting as a cost-effective alternative to a traditional brick conservatory.”

, Matt, Founder of Greenhouse Stores

Matt's installation tip: the "wall-plate" precision

The San Remo is a heavy, substantial structure. Its longevity depends entirely on the wall-attachment height. If your wall plate is not 100% level, the three sets of sliding doors will bind and fail to lock correctly.

I recommend using a laser level to mark your wall-plate line before drilling. Importantly, ensure you use the heavy-duty masonry anchors provided and apply a bead of neutral-cure silicone along the wall connection to prevent water ingress. Read our full base guide here.

Refined technical faqs

  • What does the 10-year warranty cover on the San Remo?

The Palram Canopia warranty covers the structural integrity of the aluminium frame and the durability of the polycarbonate and acrylic glazing. It specifically guarantees that the panels will not turn yellow, become brittle, or shatter due to UV exposure for the full 10-year period, provided the unit is anchored to a solid foundation.

  • How do I maintain the crystal-clear acrylic wall panels?

Acrylic is highly impact-resistant but can be scratched by abrasive cleaners. We recommend washing the panels with lukewarm water and a mild dish soap using a soft microfibre cloth. Avoid glass cleaners containing ammonia, as these can cause "crazing" or cloudiness in the material over time.

  • Can the San Remo be used as a year-round living space?

While the 8mm twin-wall roof provides significantly better insulation than standard greenhouses, the San Remo is uninsulated at the base. It functions as a 3-season room. To use it in deep winter, we recommend installing a 2kW or 3kW electric heater to maintain comfort levels during evening use.

  • Is the San Remo wind and snow resistant?

Yes. The reinforced aluminium frame and 8mm polycarbonate roof are designed to withstand winds up to 120km/h (75mph) and snow loads of 150kg/m², making it one of the most solid sun room structures on the market.
