Professional storage racking & garage shelving
Maximise your floor space and improve safety with our range of heavy-duty storage racking. At Greenhouse Stores, we specialise in industrial-grade shelving solutions designed for domestic use. Whether you are organising a cluttered garage, setting up a workshop, or adding vertical storage to your Potting Shed, our boltless racking systems provide a stable, high-capacity platform for all your equipment. For smaller, enclosed storage needs, browse our Garden Storage Boxes.
Our collection features the well-known Bulldog range, utilising a smart keyhole assembly system that requires no nuts, bolts, or specialist tools. With moisture-resistant decks and powder-coated steel frames, these units are built to survive the high-humidity environments of garden buildings without rusting or sagging. All orders include free UK mainland delivery and are backed by our expert technical support.
Choosing the right racking unit
Standard Shelving (175kg UDL): Well suited to general household storage, boxes, and light garden tools.
Industrial Racking (250kg-350kg UDL): Required for heavy power tools, automotive batteries, and stacked compost bags.
Workbench Conversions: Many of our 5-tier units can be split into two separate waist-height workbenches, giving you a versatile workspace and storage combo.
Why We Chose This Range
“We stock Bulldog Racking for one technical reason: Steel Gauge. Many budget shelving units look identical but use thin 0.5mm steel that buckles under vibration. Bulldog uses heavy-duty cold-rolled steel with a superior powder-coated finish. This structural rigidity is why we can confidently rate these units for UDL (Uniformly Distributed Loads) of up to 350kg per level, essential for gardeners storing heavy bags of compost or DIYers with bench-mounted machinery.”
, Matt, Founder of Greenhouse StoresMatt's installation tip: the "bottom-heavy" rule
Boltless racking is incredibly strong, but it is only as stable as its center of gravity. For safety, always place your heaviest loads on the bottom shelf. This anchors the unit to the floor. Importantly, if you are building a full run of shelving in a shed or garage, use Wall Anchor Kits. Even a 'heavy-duty' unit can tip if a child climbs on it or if a heavy item is pulled from the top shelf. Bolt them together and then to the wall for a rock-solid industrial setup.”
Frequently asked questions about storage racking
-
What does UDL mean?
UDL stands for Uniformly Distributed Load. This means the weight capacity (e.g., 200kg) is based on the weight being spread evenly across the shelf. If you place a single 200kg point-load in the very center of an MDF shelf, it may bow or break.
-
Should I choose MDF or Galvanised shelves?
MDF is best for dry garages and workshops as it provides a smooth surface for small parts. Galvanised steel decks are essential for greenhouses or damp sheds, as they won't warp, rot, or grow mould when exposed to high humidity or spilled liquids.
-
Can the racking units be split into lower workbenches?
Yes, the majority of our 5-tier Bulldog units feature a central connector that allows them to be split into two separate halves. This lets you create two waist-height workbenches, well suited to DIY projects or greenhouse potting stations.
-
Do I need special tools for assembly?
No. Our racking features a boltless keyhole system. The components tap together. A rubber mallet is the only tool you might find helpful to secure the beams firmly in place without marking the powder-coated finish.
