Choosing your perfect swallow jay: a quick guide
Finding the right size
Size matters when planning your space. The compact Swallow Jay 6x6 Wooden Potting Shed (£3,519) suits smaller gardens for essential tasks. Most gardeners opt for the 6x8 or 6x10 models (£3,751–£4,041), which offer room for overwintering plants and storing tools. The mid-range 6x12 and 6x14 models (£4,895–£5,244) provide generous workspace, whilst the extended 6x16 to 6x20 models (£5,532–£6,113) give you genuine year-round growing space.
The thermowood advantage
✅ Thermowood construction sets these sheds apart. The timber is heat-treated at 212°C, removing moisture and sugars that cause rot. This creates timber that’s 40% more stable and naturally decay-resistant without chemical preservatives. Your shed arrives with a protective oiled finish, though 10 optional paint colours are available.
Base preparation: your only job
Your Swallow Jay includes free installation, but it requires a firm, level base to be built on. This is the only part of the process you need to arrange. A base of concrete or paving slabs is ideal. For a full walkthrough, read our expert guide: How to Build a Concrete Base for a Wooden Greenhouse.
Need more width? jay vs. rook
The Jay is 6ft 8" wide. If you love the design but need more width for benches or storage, the Swallow Rook Potting Shed is its 8ft 9" wide sibling. You can also browse our complete range of Swallow Wooden Greenhouses to compare all models.
