About Our Greenhouse Ties, Hooks and Supports

We stock 9 genuine fixings from Elite, Vitavia, and Palram Canopia, priced from £14 to £69. Every hook, clip, and tying eye is designed to slot into aluminium glazing bar channels. No drilling required. These are the same parts we use on our own installations across the UK.

The range covers three main jobs: hanging plants and baskets (plastic hooks, plant hangers, screwhooks), training climbing crops (tying eyes, trellising kits), and securing bubble insulation (insulation clips with built-in spacers). Each product page lists exactly which greenhouse brands it fits.

Why We Chose This Range

"We tested dozens of generic greenhouse hooks over the years. Most snapped within two seasons from UV damage. The Elite and Vitavia parts we stock now are the ones that survived five-plus years on our display greenhouses in Sheffield. The Palram plant hangers are the only ones engineered for polycarbonate glazing bars, which are narrower than standard aluminium."

Choosing the Right Fixing: Quick Guide

By Weight Capacity

Light loads (under 2kg): Plastic twist-in hooks work for small pots, tool holders, and thermometers. Elite Plastic Hooks (pack of 6, £15) are the go-to choice.

Medium loads (2-7kg): Metal screwhooks handle herb baskets and young tomato plants. Vitavia Screwhooks (£17) thread directly into standard 25mm channels.

Heavy loads (7kg+): Mature tomato and cucumber plants reach 8-10kg by late summer. Use Elite Tying Eyes (£28) with horizontal training wire for proper support.

By Greenhouse Brand

Elite greenhouses: All Elite hooks, clips, spacers, and tying eyes fit directly. Standard 25mm aluminium channels.

Vitavia and Halls: Vitavia Screwhooks are designed for these frames. Most Elite twist-in hooks also fit the 25mm channel.

Palram Canopia: These use narrower 16mm polycarbonate glazing bars. Only Palram Plant Hangers (£17) and the Palram Trellising Kit Pro (£52) are guaranteed to fit.

💡 Tip: Buy more hooks than you think you need. A 6ft x 8ft greenhouse typically needs 12-16 fixing points for a proper training wire setup. Running short mid-season means disturbing established plants.

🔧 Matt's Installation Tip: Training Wire Setup

Fix Elite Tying Eyes at 150cm height along both sides of the ridge bar, spaced 60cm apart. Run 1.5mm galvanised wire between them and tension until there is no visible sag. Tie plant stems to the wire every 30cm using soft plant ties. This distributes the weight across multiple fixing points instead of loading a single hook.

Frequently Asked Questions

What greenhouse hooks do I need for tomatoes?

Use metal screwhooks or tying eyes for tomato plants. A mature cordon tomato easily reaches 8kg by August. Plastic twist-in hooks are rated to just 2kg and will pull free under that weight. We recommend Elite Tying Eyes with horizontal training wire for the strongest setup.

Do these hooks fit all greenhouse brands?

Most fit any greenhouse with 25mm aluminium channels. That covers Elite, Vitavia, Halls, and most models made after 1995. Palram Canopia greenhouses have narrower 16mm polycarbonate bars, so you need Palram-specific fixings like the Palram Plant Hangers or Trellising Kit Pro.

How do I attach hooks without drilling?

Insert the T-head into the channel and twist 90 degrees. The hook locks against the inner walls of the glazing bar. For screwhooks, thread clockwise until the washer sits firm against the aluminium. Neither method damages the frame or voids your warranty.

What is the difference between insulation clips and standard hooks?

Insulation clips have a 15mm spacer that standard hooks lack. This gap keeps bubble wrap off the glass, preventing condensation pooling that destroys insulation performance. Elite Insulation Shading Clips (£22, pack of 10) are purpose-built for this job.

How many hooks do I need for my greenhouse?

Plan for 2-3 hooks per metre of glazing bar. A typical 6ft x 8ft greenhouse needs 12-16 fixing points for a full training wire system. For hanging baskets only, 4-6 hooks along the ridge bar is usually enough.

Can I use these hooks in a wooden greenhouse?

No, these fixings are designed for aluminium channels only. Wooden greenhouse frames need screw-in eye hooks fixed directly into the timber. Our range is engineered for the T-slot channels found in metal-framed greenhouses.

Will plastic greenhouse hooks snap in the sun?

Our UV-stabilised hooks last 15+ years without going brittle. Generic hooks from garden centres often crack within 2-3 seasons. The Elite and Vitavia plastic hooks we stock are rated to withstand prolonged UV exposure without degradation.
