Matt's Installation Tip: Getting the Most from 5ft 8"
The Robin's 5ft 8" width allows staging on both sides with a narrow central aisle. If you plan to use a wheelbarrow, choose staging on one side only to keep the aisle at 500mm. For the base, allow 50mm clearance beyond the frame on all sides. A paving slab base works well and is easier to get precisely level than concrete for this footprint.

The 5ft 8" width is an engineering decision by Swallow. It provides the best balance between internal space and structural rigidity for the ThermoWood frame. This width allows staging on both sides while keeping a usable central aisle. It fills the gap between 4ft compact models and standard 6ft ranges.
What colours are available for the Swallow Robin Painted?
Ten factory paint colours are available as standard. These include Lily White, Bracken, Olive, Anthracite, Lulworth Blue, and Railings. The factory spray gives a smoother finish than field painting. Oiled and natural ThermoWood finishes are available as alternatives.
How does the Robin compare to the Swallow Lark?
The Robin is 20 inches wider than the 4ft Lark. This extra width allows staging on both sides rather than just one. The Robin also has a higher eaves height, giving more headroom for taller plants. Both models share the same ThermoWood construction, painted finish as standard, and free installation.
Does the painted finish need maintenance?
Factory paint lasts 5-7 years before needing a refresh. The ThermoWood underneath is rot-resistant regardless, so repainting is purely cosmetic. When it fades, use any quality exterior wood paint. The 12-year manufacturer warranty covers the timber frame regardless of finish condition.
