About Our 6x6 Greenhouses
A 6x6 greenhouse is the size most growers settle on. It gives you room for staging down one side and a clear standing space on the other. We stock 55 models in this size, starting from £379. The range spans toughened glass, horticultural glass and twin-wall polycarbonate, in silver, green, grey and black frames.
The square footprint is the thing to plan for. Your base must be a true 6ft by 6ft square, level and dead flat, or the frame will not sit right. We fit these every week, so we know where they go wrong. If you want more length for a second bench, look at our 8x6 greenhouses. Tighter on space? The 6x4 greenhouses suit a narrow plot. Add greenhouse staging to make full use of both walls.
Why We Chose This Range
"The 6x6 is the size I point most first-time buyers to. You get staging on one side and room to actually stand and work on the other. A 6x4 always feels cramped once the bench goes in. The 6x6 does not."
— Matt, Founder of Greenhouse Stores💡 Tip: Order your base or base anchor kit with the greenhouse. Retro-fitting one to a built frame is a fiddly half-day job.
🔧 Matt's Installation Tip: Get the base square first
Measure both diagonals before you build. On a 6x6 they should match to within a few millimetres. If one diagonal is longer, the base is a parallelogram, not a square. The roof bars will not line up and the door will jam. Fix the base before a single panel goes on.
Matt's Pick: Vitavia 6x6 Venus 3800 Greenhouse - Toughened Glass
Best For: A first proper walk-in greenhouse that will not blow over in a gale.
Why I Recommend It: Toughened glass shrugs off knocks and stray footballs. The Venus frame is sturdy for the money, and parts are easy to get years on.

Frequently asked questions
What size base do I need for a 6x6 greenhouse?
A flat, level square of 6ft by 6ft. Concrete, paving slabs or a steel base kit all work. Check both diagonals match so the footprint is truly square.
Can you fit staging on both sides of a 6x6?
Yes, on most 6x6 models. Many growers run staging down one wall and keep the other side clear for tall plants and grow bags.
Which glazing is best for a 6x6 greenhouse?
Toughened glass for most gardens. It gives clear light and resists knocks. Choose polycarbonate for warmth and safety near children or in windy spots.
Is a 6x6 big enough to grow tomatoes and start seeds?
Yes, comfortably for a household. You get a bench for seed trays plus floor room for grow bags of tomatoes, cucumbers or peppers.
Do I need to anchor a 6x6 greenhouse down?
Yes, always. Bolt the frame to a base or use a ground anchor kit. An unsecured 6x6 can lift and twist in strong wind.
