The distinctive design features a 6ft 8 inch wide gable section with an apex-roofed porch. This creates two separate growing zones in a single structure. We have been fitting Swallow greenhouses for over 12 years. The Cygnet remains one of the most requested models from gardeners wanting a traditional Victorian look.
Every Cygnet is constructed from Scandinavian ThermoWood heat-treated at 215C. This process removes moisture and resin, making the timber naturally rot-resistant without chemical preservatives. Standard features include 3mm toughened safety glass, automatic roof vents, and full-length slatted staging. A mortise lock door with stainless steel handle is fitted. Matt's Installation Tip
The Cygnet's T-shape base is more complex than a standard rectangle. We always recommend a concrete base rather than slabs for these models. The porch section joints need to sit perfectly level. If using paving slabs, make sure the porch-to-main junction sits on a single unbroken slab. This prevents movement that could stress the glazing bars over time.

The T-shape refers to the greenhouse's floor plan when viewed from above. The main growing section runs in one direction. The apex-roofed porch extends outwards from the centre, forming a T. This gives you a dedicated entrance area with staging, separate from the main wings. The design dates back to Victorian orangeries. How long does a Swallow Cygnet take to install?
Installation typically takes 1-2 days depending on the model size. Our team arrives with all pre-cut components and erects the complete structure on your prepared base. You will receive 2-3 weeks notice of the confirmed installation date. The full process from order to completion is 8-12 weeks.
Does the ThermoWood need treating or painting?
No chemical treatment is ever required. The heat treatment at 215C makes ThermoWood naturally resistant to rot and decay. The standard oiled finish will silver gracefully over time if left untreated. You can re-oil annually to maintain the honey-brown colour, or choose a factory-painted Cygnet for a more traditional look.
What base do I need for a Swallow Cygnet?
