The Swallow Raven Painted Greenhouse is an 8ft wide wooden greenhouse with double doors. It features a factory-sprayed painted finish as standard. Built in Rotherham by skilled carpenters and joiners, every Raven is constructed from Scandinavian ThermoWood heat-treated at 215C. The 8ft width gives you room for staging on both sides with a clear central walkway. Double doors provide easy access for wheelbarrows and larger equipment.
Standard features include 3mm toughened safety glass, automatic roof vents, and full-length slatted staging. Double doors with mortise lock and stainless steel handles are fitted. Matt's Installation Tip
With the painted Raven, be careful during the first few weeks after installation. The factory paint needs around 28 days to fully cure. Avoid leaning tools or staging against the freshly painted frame during this period. After curing, the finish is tough and will last 5-8 years before needing attention.
What paint colours are available for the Raven?
Swallow offers 10 standard paint colours for the Raven. Options include Lily White, Lulworth Blue, Vert De Terre, and Bracken. Also available are Olive, Railings, Anthracite, Mole's Breath, Purbeck Stone, and Oxford Stone. Custom colour matches are also available. The paint is factory-sprayed at Swallow's Rotherham workshop before delivery.
How does the Raven Painted compare to the Kingfisher Painted?
The Raven is 2ft wider at 8ft and features double doors. The Kingfisher Painted is 6ft wide with a single door, making it better for smaller gardens. The Raven's double doors are ideal for wheelchair access and moving larger items in and out. Both models use the same ThermoWood construction and factory-sprayed painted finish.
Is the painted finish better than oiled for weather protection?
The painted finish provides an additional layer of weather protection. Both oiled and painted finishes sit on top of ThermoWood that is already naturally rot-resistant. The paint seals the timber surface more effectively and typically lasts 5-8 years before needing a refresh. Oiled finishes need annual re-oiling to maintain the honey-brown colour, but the underlying wood stays protected regardless.
What warranty comes with the Raven Painted Greenhouse?
Every Raven Painted Greenhouse includes a 12-year manufacturer warranty. This covers the ThermoWood frame against rot and structural decay. The factory-applied paint does not affect the warranty in any way. You pay just 20% deposit, with the balance due after installation is complete.
Do I need planning permission for a Raven Painted Greenhouse?
Most Raven models do not need planning permission. Under permitted development rules, greenhouses under 3m high are usually exempt. They must sit at least 2m from boundaries and cover less than 50% of your garden. All Raven models meet the height requirement. Check with your local planning authority if you live in a conservation area or near a listed building.
