About Our 4ft Wide Lean-To Greenhouses
We stock 70 in-stock 4ft wide lean-to greenhouses, with prices from £320. Each one fits flat against a wall or fence. The narrow 4ft depth keeps the footprint tight, so it slots down the side of a house or along a boundary. The wall behind acts as a heat store, releasing warmth overnight and protecting young plants. We have fitted these against brick, render and timber walls across the UK.
Most models here use a sliding front door, which saves the path space a hinged door would block. Browse the wider lean-to greenhouses range for deeper builds, the standalone 4ft wide greenhouses for free-standing options, or our small greenhouses for compact garden corners. When we fit a 4ft lean-to, we always check the wall is sound and the gutter line clears the roof slope.
Why We Chose This Range
"A 4ft lean-to is the one greenhouse I recommend for a narrow yard. Fit it against a south wall and the brick holds heat into the evening. I have grown tomatoes in one that never dropped below 6 degrees on frosty April nights."
— Matt, Founder of Greenhouse Stores💡 Tip: A south or west-facing wall gives the warmest, brightest spot for a lean-to. North-facing walls work for shade-loving ferns and overwintering hardy plants.
🔧 Matt's Installation Tip: Seal the Wall Join
Run a bead of clear silicone along the top flashing where the roof meets the wall. This stops rain tracking down the brick and into the greenhouse. Leave a 10mm gap at the base for the foundation bolts. Check the wall is plumb before you fix the frame, or the door will bind.
Matt's Pick: Elite Windsor 4x6 Lean to Greenhouse
Best For: A first lean-to on a standard garden wall with limited path width.
Why I Recommend It: The 4x6 size suits most walls and the sliding door clears the path. The Elite frame is one of the sturdiest we fit, and the brown finish blends in well.
Price: from £479

Frequently asked questions
How much space does a 4ft wide lean-to need?
A 4ft lean-to needs a clear wall about 1.2 metres wide. Leave a 60cm path in front for the sliding door. Measure the wall height too, as the roof slopes up from the front eave to the wall.
Does the wall really keep the greenhouse warmer?
Yes, a solid wall stores daytime heat and releases it at night. We have measured 2 to 3 degrees more warmth in lean-tos against brick than in free-standing greenhouses nearby. South-facing walls give the strongest effect.
Why choose a 4ft wide over a deeper lean-to?
The 4ft depth fits narrow side returns and boundary paths. It gives one staging run plus standing room. Deeper 6ft or 8ft models suit wider gardens where you want staging on both sides.
Can I fit a lean-to greenhouse myself?
Most gardeners fit these over a weekend with one helper. The frame bolts together and fixes to the wall with brackets. A level base is the main job. We supply full instructions, and our team answers fitting questions by phone.
Should I pick glass or polycarbonate glazing?
Glass gives the clearest view and lasts longest. Polycarbonate is lighter and will not shatter, which suits homes with children or pets. Toughened glass is the safest glass option and resists knocks better than horticultural.
