About Our Swallow Swan Greenhouses

The Swallow Swan Greenhouse represents the premium end of British wooden greenhouse design. This distinctive T-shaped Victorian-style structure combines a traditional greenhouse with a spacious central porch, creating an elegant orangery-style growing space that's become increasingly popular with serious gardeners across the UK.

💡 Every Swallow Swan Greenhouse is built using Scandinavian ThermoWood timber – a heat-treated wood that's 50% more rot-resistant than standard timber and carries a 12-year warranty. The range includes five sizes from the compact Swallow Swan 8x13 Greenhouse (13'7" long) up to the impressive Swallow Swan 8x30 Greenhouse (30'3" long). All models share the same 8'9" width across the main growing area, with a 4'5" or 6'6" porch extension adding practical storage and potting space.

Standard features include toughened safety glass throughout, automatic roof vents for temperature control, full-length slatted staging benches, and professional guttering. What sets these greenhouses apart is the free UK mainland installation service – your Swallow Swan arrives as a flat-pack and gets professionally erected on your prepared base, typically within 4–6 weeks of ordering.

Customisation options include a choice between the standard oiled finish or 10 painted colour options including Lily White, Bracken, and Sage. You can also opt for a Swallow Swan Dwarf Wall model, which features a 2'3" timber wall around the base for improved insulation and a more traditional Victorian aesthetic.

Choosing Your Swallow Swan Greenhouse: Quick Guide

Size Selection: Most customers choose based on available garden space and growing ambitions. The Swallow Swan 8x17 Greenhouse (17'11" long) is the best-seller, offering enough space for serious vegetable growing plus the central porch for potting and storage. Budget roughly 3 feet extra in length for comfortable access around the structure.

Price Range: Swallow Swan Greenhouses start from £9,495 for the 8x13 model and range up to £15,695 for the 8x30. Painted finishes add approximately £1,200–£1,800 depending on size, while dwarf wall models cost roughly £800–£1,000 more than standard boarding versions. Remember you're paying only 20% deposit with your order – the balance isn't due until after delivery and installation.

Base Preparation: You'll need a level concrete or paving slab base before installation. Our guides on how to build a concrete base for a wooden greenhouse and how to build a paving slab base walk you through both options. Most customers find paving slabs quicker and more forgiving for DIY installation.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How much does a Swallow Swan Greenhouse cost?

Swallow Swan Greenhouse prices range from £9,495 for the 8x13 model to £15,695 for the 8x30. The mid-range Swallow Swan 8x22 Greenhouse costs around £12,495. Painted finishes add £1,200–£1,800, and dwarf wall versions cost approximately £800–£1,000 more. Free UK mainland delivery and professional installation are included in all prices.

  • What makes the Swan different from other Swallow models?

The distinctive T-shaped design is the key difference. While other Swallow greenhouses are traditional rectangular structures, the Swan features a central porch extension (4'5" or 6'6") running perpendicular to the main greenhouse. This creates a Victorian orangery appearance and provides dedicated space for potting, tool storage, and accessing both sides of the growing area without walking through your plants.

  • Do I need to treat the wood?

No wood treatment is required. Every Swallow Swan Greenhouse arrives with an oiled finish as standard – this is ready to use immediately and doesn't need annual re-oiling. The ThermoWood construction is heat-treated during manufacture, making it naturally rot-resistant for 25–30 years. If you choose a painted finish, this also requires no maintenance for several years. Simply brush off debris and check glazing seals annually.

  • What's included in the free installation service?

Free installation covers professional assembly on your prepared base anywhere on UK mainland. The installation team (typically 2–3 people) will arrive with all components, erect the entire structure including glazing, fit staging benches and automatic vents, and ensure all doors operate correctly. Installation typically takes 1–2 days depending on size. You're responsible for providing the level base – either concrete or paving slabs – before the team arrives.

  • Should I choose oiled or painted finish?

The standard oiled finish showcases the natural ThermoWood grain and requires zero maintenance – it's the practical choice for most gardeners. Painted finishes (10 colours available) suit those wanting a specific garden colour scheme or a more traditional Victorian aesthetic. Painted versions cost £1,200–£1,800 extra and may need repainting after 8–10 years, while oiled finishes maintain their appearance for 25+ years with no intervention.

  • Can I see a Swallow Swan before buying?

Unfortunately we don't operate display sites, but we can arrange to share contact details of local customers who've agreed to show their greenhouses to prospective buyers – just call 0800 098 8877 to arrange this. Alternatively, check our website for customer photos and detailed specification sheets. Remember you're only paying 20% deposit upfront, with the balance due after delivery and installation when you can inspect the finished structure.
