We use soil thermometers in our own greenhouses before every sowing season. Soil temperature matters more than air temperature when it comes to germination — seeds will not sprout reliably in cold compost regardless of how warm the greenhouse feels.
The Vitavia Soil Thermometer pushes directly into your growing beds, pots, or propagator trays to give an accurate reading of the soil temperature at root level. Most vegetable and flower seeds need soil temperatures between 10°C and 21°C to germinate. Without measuring, you are guessing.
The stainless steel probe resists moisture and soil acids, so it will last season after season. The analogue dial reads clearly without batteries or calibration. Simply push the probe into the soil to the required depth and read the temperature after a few minutes.

The Installation Team will contact you directly to book in your installation.Our installation service requires a level Concrete, Slabbed or Decked Area to the minimum size stated on the website and with 18-24 Inches of clearance around it. Failure to provide a suitable base area and clearance may result in you being charged for the failed installation If you require staging or shelving assembly, you can arrange it directly with the installation team.
