About Our Door Canopies
A door canopy keeps rain and snow off your doorstep and stops water streaking down the wall above your door. We stock 47 Palram Canopia door canopies in stock now, from a compact rain shield at £69 up to a wide porch cover. Every model fixes straight onto brick above your door with the supplied bracket kit. The polycarbonate roof lets daylight through while blocking harmful UV, so your entrance stays bright but protected.
Pick a width that suits your door, not your wall. Aim for 200mm clear each side of the frame so wind-blown rain still misses the threshold. Single doors take a 1500mm to 2050mm canopy. Double or French doors want 3000mm or more. For wider cover over a seating area, see our Patio Covers. For a freestanding shelter, browse our Palram Gazebos or the full Garden Structures range.
Why We Chose This Range
"The thing that sells me on Palram is the rear seal. On a job in Leeds I pulled off an old canopy and found a black algae stain running down the render where the old one leaked at the back. Palram canopies have a hidden gasket along the wall edge that pushes every drop into the front gutter. I fitted the replacement, hosed the wall test, and the brickwork stayed dry."
— Matt, Founder of Greenhouse Stores💡 Tip: Measure the height above your door before you buy. You need clear wall for the brackets and enough clearance so the canopy does not foul the door swing or any light fitting.
🔧 Matt's Installation Tip: Match the fixing to the wall
Coach bolts straight into solid brick or block are simple. Render over insulation needs longer bolts that reach the blockwork behind. On timber-frame walls, fix into the structural studs, not just the cladding. I carry a stud finder and a 10mm masonry bit on every job, and I check my drill bit reaches solid material before I start. Run a bead of neutral-cure clear silicone along the top edge once the canopy is up.
Matt's Pick: Palram Canopia Aquila 3000 Door Canopy
Best For: Double doors, French doors and standard front doors that need generous cover.
Why I Recommend It: It is the one I fit most. The deep curved roof throws rain well clear of the step, and the 3000mm width leaves 500mm spare each side of a normal doorway.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need planning permission for a door canopy?
Most door canopies need no planning permission. They count as a minor alteration to your home. Listed buildings and some conservation areas are the exception, where any change to the front needs approval. A quick call to your local planning office confirms it.
How wide should a door canopy be?
Allow at least 200mm wider than the door frame each side. A standard UK front door measures 838mm wide. A 1500mm canopy covers that door with room to spare. Double or French doors want a 3000mm model or wider to catch angled rain.
Can I fit a door canopy myself?
Yes, most models go up in 30 to 60 minutes. You need a drill, masonry bits, a spirit level and a spanner. The smaller Neo and Nancy canopies weigh under 10kg, so one person manages fine. Larger canopies are easier with a second pair of hands.
Will the canopy cope with snow?
Yes, the polycarbonate roof is built to flex under snow load. The high-impact panels bend rather than crack in hard frost. The sloped or curved profile also sheds snow, so weight does not build up. Clear heavy settled snow with a soft brush after a big fall.
What colour are the canopies?
Most door canopies come in dark grey with a clear or tinted roof. The Iris range is black. Grey frames suit nearly every brick or render colour and hide road grime well. Clear panels suit shaded north-facing doors, tinted panels suit sunny south-facing ones.
