About Our Mini Lean-To Greenhouses with Backs

Mini lean-to greenhouses with optional glazed back panels solve a common problem. You want a lean-to but have no suitable house wall. The back panel turns an open-backed lean-to into a self-supporting unit. Place it against a fence, shed, hedge, or use it freestanding on a patio. We stock 14 models from Access and Stali, all with toughened safety glass and aluminium frames. Prices start from £320 with free UK delivery and a 25-year warranty.

The range covers four product types. Compact 2x4 growhouses are the entry point for herbs and seedlings. Hampton and Harewood lean-tos add 4mm glass and mist watering systems. The Exbury range offers the largest floor area at 3ft wide. The Stali 2x5 is a premium matte black design for modern patios.

Why We Chose This Range

“Half the calls we get about mini greenhouses are from people who don’t have a brick wall to lean against. The Access range with the optional glass back panel fixes that. We’ve seen customers put them against fence panels, garden walls, and even freestanding in the middle of a courtyard. The aluminium frames are bomb-proof and the 25-year warranty speaks for itself.” — Matt, Greenhouse Stores

Types of Mini Lean-To Greenhouse We Offer

Access Growhouses

The most compact option. 2ft wide with 3mm toughened glass and adjustable seed tray shelves. The Half Growhouse starts at £320. The full Growhouse adds more shelves and depth. Ideal for herbs, seedlings, and overwintering tender plants.

Hampton & Harewood Lean-Tos

Mid-range lean-tos with 4mm toughened glass and a 2-tier mist watering system. Available in 2x3 and 2x5 sizes. The optional glazed back panel is what makes them freestanding. Both include a toughened glass centre shelf. From £589.

Access Exbury Freestanding

The largest mini greenhouses in the range at 3ft wide. 4mm toughened glass, 8 adjustable shelves, and a mist watering system as standard. Available in 3x5 and 3x6 sizes. From £1,140.

Stali Premium

A matte black aluminium frame with 4mm safety glass. The Stali 2x5 is a modern design aimed at contemporary gardens. Includes gutters and a sliding door. 10-year warranty. £1,599.

Quick Guide: With or Without the Glass Back?

If you have a solid brick or stone wall, you do not need the back panel. Leave it off and save £80–£120. If you are placing the greenhouse against a fence, shed, or using it freestanding, add the glazed back. It turns the lean-to into a fully enclosed, self-supporting unit that does not need fixing to the surface behind it.

Matt's Installation Tip

These mini greenhouses do not need a concrete base. A flat, level surface is enough. Paving slabs, decking, or compacted gravel all work. Check the surface is level with a spirit level before assembly. If placing against a fence, leave a 10mm gap for airflow and to stop condensation pooling against the timber. See our guide on fixing a lean-to on an uneven surface for tips on tricky sites.

Where Can You Place a Mini Lean-To with a Back?

Anywhere you have a flat surface. The glazed back panel makes these greenhouses self-supporting. Common placements include fence panels, garden shed walls, garage side walls, and freestanding on patios or decking. The built-in gutters direct rainwater away from the base. Unlike open-backed lean-tos, you do not need to drill into or fix to the surface behind. Browse our small lean-to greenhouses if you need a larger wall-mounted option.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How much does a mini lean-to greenhouse with a back cost?

Prices start from £320 for the 2x4 Half Growhouse. The mid-range Hampton 2x5 with 4mm glass and mist watering costs £739. The largest Exbury 3x6 costs £1,275. The premium Stali 2x5 in matte black is £1,599. All prices include free UK delivery.

  • Can I use a mini lean-to against a fence?

Yes. Add the optional glazed back panel and it stands independently. The greenhouse rests against the fence but does not need fixing to it. Leave a 10mm gap between the back panel and the fence for airflow. This works with wooden panel fencing, close-board fencing, and concrete post-and-panel systems.

  • Do I need a concrete base for a mini greenhouse?

No. Any flat, level surface works. Paving slabs, decking, and compacted gravel are all suitable. The key requirement is a level surface. Check with a spirit level before assembly. These mini greenhouses are light enough to move once assembled if you need to reposition them.

  • What is the difference between 3mm and 4mm toughened glass?

4mm glass holds heat better and resists impact more than 3mm. Both are toughened safety glass that shatters into safe fragments. The growhouse models use 3mm. Hampton, Harewood, and Exbury models use 4mm. If your site is exposed to wind, choose a 4mm model. See our glass vs polycarbonate guide for more on glazing choices.

  • How many shelves do these mini greenhouses have?

Between 2 and 8 adjustable seed tray shelves depending on the model. The Half Growhouse has 2. The Hampton 2x3 has 4 and the 2x5 has 6. Exbury models have 8 shelves plus a toughened glass centre shelf. All shelves are height-adjustable to fit different pot and tray sizes.

  • What colours are available?

Access models come in 6 powder-coated colours. Standard silver aluminium is the base option. Colour upgrades include racing green, heritage green, old cottage green, anthracite grey, and black. The Stali 2x5 is only available in matte black. Colour options add a small premium to the base price.

  • How long does assembly take?

Most models take 1–2 hours to assemble. These are self-assembly greenhouses delivered flat-packed with all fixings and instructions. The aluminium frame bolts together and the glass panels slide into channels. No specialist tools are needed. Two people make the job easier for holding panels in place.
