About our 2x4 mini greenhouses

Our collection of 2x4 Mini Greenhouses is designed specifically for UK gardeners with limited space but big growing ambitions. A 2x4 footprint (approximately 0.6m x 1.2m) is the "Goldilocks" size for urban gardening, compact enough to fit on a small patio, balcony, or narrow side alley, yet spacious enough to accommodate full-height tomato plants, shelving for seedlings, and overwintering pots.

Unlike flimsy plastic alternatives, our range features solid aluminium frames and high-quality glazing options. Key features across this collection include low-threshold entrances for safe access, integral aluminium bases for stability, and compatibility with automatic ventilation systems.

Whether you choose a standard lean-to to attach to your kitchen wall or one of our freestanding Mini Lean To Greenhouses With Backs, you get a structure built to last. We offer Free UK Delivery on all models and a 10 Year Warranty on frames for total peace of mind. For a wider look at compact gardening solutions, browse our full Mini Greenhouses range.

Choosing your 2x4 greenhouse

Selecting the right 2x4 model depends on your specific location and what you intend to grow.

Lean-to vs. freestanding

If you have a sturdy wall that receives sunlight, a lean-to is ideal as the wall acts as a heat sink, keeping plants warmer at night. For open patios or balconies where no wall is available, our freestanding models provide a complete glass-backed solution.

Glazing choices

We strongly recommend Toughened Glass for wind-prone areas (like balconies) as its extra weight adds essential stability. Polycarbonate is a great lightweight, shatterproof option for family gardens with young children.

Price & budget

Our range caters to all budgets. Prices typically start from £325 for standard aluminium models, rising to £650+ for premium, powder-coated Small Greenhouses with toughened glass.

💡 Top Tip: Don't forget to check our Greenhouse Staging collection for narrow shelving units designed to fit perfectly inside these 2ft deep structures.

Frequently asked questions about 2x4 mini greenhouses

  • What can I grow in a 2x4 greenhouse?

You can comfortably grow 3-4 tomato or cucumber plants in grow bags on the floor. With added shelving, you can also propagate dozens of seed trays or overwinter sensitive alpines and herbs simultaneously.

  • Do 2x4 greenhouses need a base?

Yes. Most models require a firm, level foundation like paving slabs or concrete. Many of our models come with an integral aluminium base plinth which makes installation easier and protects the frame from ground moisture.

  • How much does a 2x4 greenhouse cost?

Prices generally start around £325 for a standard polycarbonate lean-to. Premium models with toughened safety glass, powder-coated colours, and high-specification ventilation can range between £500 and £650.

  • Can I put a 2x4 greenhouse on a balcony?

Yes, a 2x4 model is well suited to balconies. We recommend choosing a model with Toughened Glass for the added weight and wind resistance. If you have slightly less depth available, consider our 2x3 Mini Greenhouses.

  • Is glass or polycarbonate better for a mini greenhouse?

Glass (especially toughened) offers better light transmission and wind stability due to its weight. Polycarbonate is safer (shatterproof) and offers slightly better thermal insulation. If you need more space than a 2x4 offers, check our 3x6 Mini Greenhouses.
