Greenhouses for Iceland

Greenhouses in Iceland take a beating that would flatten a standard frame. North Atlantic gusts pass 80mph and snow can sit on the roof for weeks. We ship our storm-rated Elite range to Iceland, led by the Elite Titan with its Core-Vect box-section aluminium frame and 4mm toughened safety glass. Every model below is engineered for high winds and heavy snow loads, and we arrange specialist shipping to Reykjavik. Browse the range and pick your size.

Why we only recommend the storm-rated range for Iceland

"We have shipped greenhouses to Iceland since 2012, and we learned early that standard frames do not survive there. Icelandic gusts pass 80mph and the snow stays on the roof for weeks. So we stock the storm-rated Elite range, led by the Elite Titan with its Core-Vect box-section aluminium and 4mm toughened safety glass. These structures stay standing when lighter frames buckle. If a greenhouse cannot handle Iceland's weather, we will not ship it there."

Matt, Founder of Greenhouse Stores

Choosing the right greenhouse for Icelandic conditions

Two things decide whether a greenhouse survives an Icelandic winter: frame strength and glazing weight. The Elite Titan leads our range with a 56mm Core-Vect box-section frame, more than double the 25mm aluminium used in budget models. That mass, plus cantilever bracing on every glazing bar, holds the structure square under 90mph gusts and heavy snow. We pair every Iceland order with 4mm toughened safety glass rather than lighter glazing. The extra weight adds ballast, and the bar-capping system locks each pane in place so wind cannot lift it out.

For most Icelandic gardens we suggest the Elite Titan 800 at 8ft 5" wide. It takes full staging down both sides with a clear central path, and the wider footprint sits more stably in exposed ground than a narrow 6ft frame. If space is tight, the Elite Titan 600 gives the same frame strength in a 6ft width. For a wall-mounted option, the Elite Titan K800 Lean-To uses your house wall for extra shelter and warmth.

Matt's Installation Tip: Extreme Wind Anchoring

For Icelandic installations, the standard base anchor is not enough. Use a poured concrete perimeter kerb rather than loose slabs. Secure the greenhouse threshold directly into the concrete with M8 stainless steel expansion bolts. Because we only supply toughened glass for this region, the extra glass weight helps with stability, but it is the mechanical bond to a concrete base that prevents structural lift during a storm.

For detailed base instructions, see our Guide to Building a Concrete Base or our Step-by-Step Paving Slab Guide.

Elite Titan 800 greenhouse in an exposed garden

Matt's Pick for Iceland

Best For: Year-round growing on an exposed, high-wind site

Why I Recommend It: The Titan 800 gives the strongest frame in a width that still takes staging on both sides. Paired with toughened glass, it is the model I would put in my own garden if I lived in Iceland.

Price: from £1,759 with toughened glass

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why do you only ship the storm-rated Elite range to Iceland?

Standard frames fail in Icelandic weather. The Elite Titan uses ultra-strong Core-Vect box-section aluminium built to handle the wind pressure and snow weight unique to the region. We will not ship a greenhouse to Iceland that we do not trust to stay standing.

  • Is toughened glass necessary for Icelandic weather?

Yes. Toughened glass is heavier and more rigid than standard glazing, which adds ballast to the structure. The Elite Titan bar-capping system locks these heavy panes in place, stopping them blowing out during high winds.

  • How is the greenhouse shipped to Iceland?

We arrange specialist export shipping, usually via the port of Reykjavik. We work with experienced freight forwarders to crate your Elite Titan Greenhouse securely for the sea crossing and handle the export paperwork.

  • Which Titan size is best for an Icelandic garden?

The Elite Titan 800 suits most gardens. At 8ft 5" wide it holds staging on both sides and sits stably in exposed ground. Choose the Titan 600 for tight spaces, or the K800 lean-to to shelter against a house wall.

  • Can I have polycarbonate glazing instead of glass for Iceland?

We recommend 4mm toughened glass for Iceland. The added weight steadies the frame, and glass resists the surface scouring that wind-blown grit causes. Polycarbonate is lighter and can be lifted by extreme gusts, so it is not our first choice for the region.
