Sheds

Choosing the right Garden Shed starts with the material. We offer three distinct ranges: Wooden Sheds (specifically Power Modular) for natural aesthetics and customization; Metal Sheds for fire-retardant security and bike storage; and Plastic Sheds (Palram & Lifetime) for a completely maintenance-free life near the coast. All our sheds, regardless of material, are selected for structural integrity—meaning no paper-thin steel or warping overlap timber.

Discover the Perfect Shed for Your Garden

At Greenhouse Stores, we offer an extensive range of high-quality sheds to suit every garden and purpose. Whether you're looking for classic Wooden Sheds, ultra-secure Metal Sheds, or maintenance-free Plastic Sheds, our collection prioritizes durability. As a leading UK supplier, we pride ourselves on delivering structures that stand up to British weather.

Our selection includes a variety of styles, such as space-saving pent sheds, traditional apex designs, and specialist Potting Sheds. All of our sheds are crafted from premium materials—we focus on 12mm Tongue & Groove cladding for wood and high-tensile hot-dipped galvanised steel for metal.

Choosing the Right Shed Material

Wooden Sheds: The classic choice. Offers natural insulation and is easily customizable with hooks and shelves. Requires annual treatment unless pressure-treated.

Metal Sheds: The security choice. Fire-retardant and often windowless, making them ideal for storing expensive bikes or mowers. Zero maintenance required.

Plastic Sheds: The easy life. Won't rot, rust, or peel. Simply wash down with a hose once a year. Ideal for coastal locations.

Why We Chose These Ranges

“We don't just stock 'generic sheds'. We hand-pick the best-in-class for each material. For wood, we only stock Power Sheds because their modular tongue-and-groove system beats cheap overlap every time. For plastic, we chose Palram because their polycarbonate roofs let in light but block UV. For metal, we selected Lotus and Sapphire because they use hot-dipped galvanised steel, not the electro-galvanised metal that rusts in a few years.”

🔧 Matt's Installation Tip: The Universal Base Rule

Whether you buy Wood, Metal, or Plastic, you cannot build directly on grass. Grass holds moisture (rotting wood/rusting metal) and shifts over time (twisting plastic frames).

You must have a level, hard-standing base ready.
• For Wood: A bearer base on slabs is best to allow airflow.
• For Metal/Plastic: You need a solid concrete or paved surface to bolt the frame down (anchor kits are essential for wind safety).”

Frequently Asked Questions about Sheds

  • What are the benefits of wooden sheds vs metal/plastic?

Wooden sheds offer a classic appearance and are easy to customize with shelves. They provide better natural insulation than metal. However, unless pressure-treated, they require annual preservative treatment. Metal and plastic sheds are generally maintenance-free but harder to modify.

  • Which shed material lasts the longest?

Technically, Plastic (Polycarbonate/HDPE) lasts the longest with the least effort, as it cannot rot or rust. However, a well-maintained pressure-treated Wooden Shed can easily last 25+ years and is easier to repair if damaged.

  • How secure are your sheds?

Much more secure than standard DIY store models. Our wooden sheds feature internally bolted hinges (thieves can't unscrew them from the outside) and rim locks rather than cheap hasp-and-staples. For maximum security, consider our windowless options or heavy-duty metal sheds.

  • Do I need a concrete base for a shed?

A solid, level base is essential. Concrete slabs or paving slabs are best. We do not recommend placing a shed directly on grass or soil, as this leads to rot and subsidence. For smaller sheds, a timber frame base (Portabase) can be used on level ground.

  • Do I need planning permission for a garden shed?

In most cases, no. Sheds are "Permitted Development" if they are under 2.5m high and cover less than 50% of your garden. Exceptions apply for Listed Buildings or Conservation Areas—always check with your local council if unsure.
