About Our 8ft Wide Greenhouses

An 8ft wide greenhouse is the width serious growers settle on. It gives staging down both sides with a proper central path, so you can work the whole house without reaching over plants. We stock 100 models at this width, from £729, led by the British-made Elite Belmont, with Swallow timber, Janssens and Palram options too.

Width changes how you grow. At 8ft you get two full benches plus a path, room for tall cordon crops one side and propagation the other. Pick the length to match: 8x6 and 8x8 suit most gardens, while 8x12 and longer give an allotment-scale run. Whatever the length, the base and ventilation matter most.

Why We Chose This Range

"Eight foot is the width I would choose for my own garden. You can stand two people in it, work both sides, and it never feels cramped by July when everything has grown. The Elite Belmont is the one I trust here: the frame is heavy-gauge aluminium, the integrated gutters actually carry water to a butt, and parts are easy to get years on. Buy the longest 8ft house your base will take, you always fill it."

Matt, Founder of Greenhouse Stores

💡 Tip: Plumb the gutters into a water butt from day one. An 8ft-wide roof collects a lot of rain, and greenhouse plants much prefer rainwater to tap. It is far easier to fit the downpipe during the build than after.

🔧 Matt's Installation Tip: Get the base dead level both ways

A wide, long frame magnifies any error in the base. Check it level across the width and the length, and square across both diagonals, before the frame goes up. A base that is true makes the rest of the build straightforward and keeps the doors sliding freely.

Matt's Pick: Elite Belmont 8x6

Best For: A do-everything wide greenhouse in a normal garden.

Why I Recommend It: Heavy-gauge British-made aluminium, integrated guttering, two benches plus a path, and easy spares for the long term.

Frequently asked questions

How much can you grow in an 8ft wide greenhouse?

A great deal. Two full benches plus a path give room for tomatoes and cucumbers one side, seedlings and pots the other, with space to overwinter tender plants through the cold months.

What lengths do 8ft wide greenhouses come in?

From 8x6 up to 8x20 and beyond. An 8x6 or 8x8 suits most gardens; 8x12 and longer give an allotment-scale growing run. Choose the longest your base and budget allow.

Do I need a strong base for an 8ft wide greenhouse?

Yes, a firm, level, square base is essential. A wide frame magnifies any twist, so a manufacturer base kit on concrete or slabs, built true, keeps the doors and glazing aligned.

Is aluminium or wooden better at 8ft wide?

Aluminium for value and zero upkeep; timber for warmth and looks. Swallow wooden 8ft models insulate better and include free installation south of Glasgow, but cost more than the Elite equivalents.

Can I add guttering to collect rainwater?

Yes, most 8ft models include or accept guttering. A wide roof collects plenty of rain, and plants prefer it to tap water. Fit the downpipe to a water butt during the build.
