About Our 8x12 Greenhouses
An 8x12 is a serious growing space. At eight feet wide and twelve long you get staging down both sides and a clear central path, enough to grow tomatoes, cucumbers and a full season of seedlings at once. We stock 43 models, from £949, across Vitavia, Elite, Palram Canopia and Swallow.
At this size two things matter more than they do on a small house: ventilation and the base. A 12ft run holds a lot of warm air, so look for two roof vents or add an automatic opener. And because the frame carries a heavy load of glass over a long span, the base has to be dead level and square or the doors will never sit right.
Why We Chose This Range
"An 8x12 is where greenhouse growing gets properly productive, but it is also where a poor base bites hardest. The longer the run, the more a twist in the slabs shows up as a door that jams by August. We keep the Vitavia Neptune at this size because the frame is stiff over the span and there is a black-framed version if you want it to look the part. Spend on a good base first; you only build it once."
— Matt, Founder of Greenhouse Stores💡 Tip: Use the length to zone the greenhouse. Keep the warm, bright end for tomatoes and cucumbers, and the cooler end for propagation and overwintering. A 12ft run lets you run both at once without them fighting.
🔧 Matt's Installation Tip: Brace the long span
On a 12ft frame the roof and sides can flex before the glass is in. Build it on a level base, get it square across both diagonals, and fit any diagonal bracing the kit includes before you glaze. A racked frame cracks panes and jams the door.
Matt's Pick: Vitavia Neptune 8x12
Best For: A productive, do-everything large greenhouse.
Why I Recommend It: A stiff frame over the long span, plenty of headroom, a choice of horticultural or toughened glass, and a black-framed option if you want the look.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
How much can you grow in an 8x12 greenhouse?
Plenty for a keen household. Staging down both sides plus a path gives room for tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and a full run of seedlings, with space to overwinter pots through the cold months.
-
Does an 8x12 greenhouse need extra ventilation?
Yes, a long greenhouse holds a lot of warm air. Aim for two roof vents, or fit automatic openers, so the temperature stays steady and fruit sets well in summer.
-
Do I need a special base for an 8x12?
You need a firm, level, square base. Over a 12ft span any twist shows as sticking doors, so a manufacturer base kit on slabs or concrete, built true, is essential before assembly.
-
Is aluminium or wooden better at this size?
Aluminium for value and zero upkeep; timber for warmth and looks. Swallow wooden 8x12 models hold heat better and include free installation south of Glasgow, but cost more than the aluminium equivalents.
-
Can two people build an 8x12 greenhouse?
Yes, but it is a weekend job for two. The panels and long frame sections are awkward alone. If you would rather not, we can arrange professional installation.
