About the elite min-e-lite cold frame range
The Elite Min-E-Lite Cold Frame is the definitive choice for gardeners requiring a high-durability season extender without the footprint of a full greenhouse. Unlike standard cold frames, the Min-E-Lite utilizes 3mm toughened safety glass and greenhouse-grade extruded aluminium, providing superior light transmission and wind resistance. British-made in Bolton, it features dual roof vents for precise climate control and is backed by an industry-leading 20-year warranty.
Why We Chose This Range
“We curating the Elite Min-E-Lite because most cold frames on the market are essentially 'single-season' products. They are often made of thin timber or plastic that blows away in the first winter gale. We chose the Min-E-Lite because it is a scaled-down Elite Greenhouse. It uses the same high-tensile aluminium and stainless steel fixings as their 20ft structures. For gardeners who want to 'harden off' plants safely, the thermal stability provided by the 3mm glass panes is vastly superior to polycarbonate alternatives.”

Matt's Installation Tip: The "Anchoring" Essential
Because the Min-E-Lite is glazed with real toughened glass, it is heavier and more stable than plastic versions. However, it still acts like a wing in high winds when the vents are open. I always insist that customers use the included floor brackets.
If you are placing this on a patio, use 6mm masonry bolts. If you are placing it on soil or an allotment, don't just push it into the dirt; bolt the brackets to a perimeter of 50mm paving slabs. This prevents the frame from twisting, which is the #1 cause of vent-lid misalignment. Read our full base guide here.
Frequently Asked Questions
-
Is the glass in the cold frame safe?
Yes. The Min-E-Lite is supplied with 3mm toughened safety glass as standard. If broken, it shatters into small, blunt granules rather than dangerous shards, making it ideal for gardens with children or pets.
-
Can I leave the cold frame outside all winter?
Absolutely. The aluminium frame is 100% rust-proof and designed to withstand British winters. Using the included floor brackets ensures the unit remains stationary during seasonal storms.
-
Are the roof vents independent?
Yes, the Min-E-Lite features two independent roof vents. This allows you to vent one side while keeping the other closed, providing superior control over airflow and temperature for delicate seedlings.
-
What sizes does the Min E Lite cold frame come in?
The Min E Lite cold frame comes in 4x2, 6x2 and 8x2. The 4x2 fits against a wall or beside a greenhouse, and the 8x2 hardens off a whole tray of seedlings. They all sit low to hold warmth.
-
How much does the Min E Lite cold frame cost?
The 4x2 starts at £249, up to £359 for the 8x2. Each has an aluminium frame and lift-up lights for easy access. It pairs neatly with an Elite greenhouse.
