Why We Chose This Range
“We developed the Lichfield range to fill a specific gap in the market: a high-quality, installed wooden greenhouse that doesn't cost £4,000. By sticking to a standardized 6ft width and streamlining the design (using Redwood Pine instead of ThermoWood), we can offer a British-made, professionally installed building for significantly less than premium bespoke options, without compromising on essential features like toughened glass and auto-vents.”
, Matt, Founder of Greenhouse StoresMatt's Installation Tip: The "Perimeter" Rule
Because the Lichfield range comes with a pre-fitted plastic base plinth, your foundation must be 100% flat and level. You cannot 'shim' it easily like a shed.
If you are laying paving slabs, ensure the perimeter (where the greenhouse walls will sit) is perfectly level. If the base dips in the middle, that's fine for drainage, but if the edges dip, the door won't slide and the glass may crack under tension. Use a long spirit level to check the diagonals before our team arrives.”
Frequently asked questions about lichfield greenhouses
-
What is the difference between Lichfield and Swallow greenhouses?
Lichfield uses dip-treated Redwood Pine (needs annual retreating) and comes in standard 6ft widths. Swallow uses ThermoWood (rot-resistant without treatment) and offers bespoke sizes. Both include free installation, but Swallow is the premium, lower-maintenance option.
-
Does the Lichfield range come with a floor?
No, these greenhouses are designed to sit on a pre-prepared firm base (concrete or paving slabs). They feature an integral 1-inch plastic damp barrier (plinth) that sits directly on your base to protect the timber frame from ground moisture.
-
What maintenance does a Lichfield greenhouse require?
Your greenhouse arrives dip-treated with a base coat. To maintain the 5 Year Warranty and prevent rot, you should treat the timber annually with a quality wood preservative. We stock suitable treatments in our Greenhouse Accessories section.
-
Is the installation really free?
Yes, Free Installation is included for addresses across mainland UK. You simply order your greenhouse, and our fitting team will deliver and erect it in your garden in one visit. You generally need to allow 8-12 weeks for manufacture and delivery.
-
Can I add extra staging?
Yes, the Lichfield range comes with full-length staging on one side as standard, but you can add high-level shelving or extra staging on the opposite side as an optional extra when configuring your product.
