DIY Greenhouse Installation π§
If youβve decided to assemble your greenhouse yourself, hereβs a list of essential tools and a few handy tips to make the job go smoothly:
- Pair of gloves β ideally with a rubber grip for safer glass handling.
- Safety goggles β essential protection during assembly.
- Scissors or a Stanley knife β for opening cardboard boxes and wrapped bundles.
- Phillips screwdriver β for assembling doors, staging, and window fittings.
- 10mm nut spanner (REMOVE: a 10mm socket drill attachment can help, but avoid over-tightening). Most bolts slide into frame channels and are secured with 10mm nuts.
- Step ladders β for roof assembly and glazing.
- Pair of pliers β useful for fitting and removing glazing clips.
- Glass sucker β helpful for safely handling long roof panes.
- Drill β required if fixing a steel base to concrete with base clips.
Fixing Your Vitavia or Elite Base to a Soft Surface π§±
Hereβs how to correctly install your greenhouse base on a soft surface such as soil using the supplied corner posts:
- Assemble the base, attaching the corner posts with the split ends facing up.
- Ensure the base is square and positioned where you want the greenhouse to sit.
- At each corner, dig a 15cm x 15cm x 40cm hole using a spade or trenching tool.
- Bend the split ends upward for better anchoring before placing the posts into the holes.
- Level and square the base before assembling and fixing the greenhouse frame on top.
- Once the structure is fully assembled and glazed, fill the corner holes with concrete to secure the posts.
β οΈ PLEASE NOTE: Our greenhouse installation team will only install greenhouses on a solid, level, and flat base. The base must be of concrete or slab construction.
β Greenhouse Stores only provides direct installation when it is offered by the manufacturer, as they use their own factory-trained installers. If you choose to hire a third-party installer, it is entirely at your own risk. For information about shed installation, see our Garden Shed Installation Midlands page.
