About our swallow mallard painted greenhouses
The Swallow Mallard Painted Greenhouse is the mid-size T-shaped orangery in the Swallow range. It comes with a factory-sprayed painted finish as standard. Built in Rotherham by skilled carpenters, the Mallard features an 8ft gable width. A separate porch section creates two distinct growing zones. The painted finish adds an extra layer of weather protection to the already rot-resistant ThermoWood frame.
Every Mallard is constructed from Scandinavian ThermoWood heat-treated at 215C. Standard features include 3mm toughened safety glass, automatic roof vents, full-length slatted staging, and a mortise lock door. Prices range from £10,052 to £16,161, with free professional installation included. Browse our full Swallow Greenhouses range or see the unpainted Swallow Mallard Greenhouse collection. For the widest painted T-shape, see our Swallow Swan Painted Greenhouse range.
"The painted Mallard is a real head-turner. When we finish an install in Lily White or Anthracite, the T-shape looks like a proper Victorian orangery. The factory-sprayed finish is far more even than anything you could achieve with a brush. I always recommend the painted version for customers whose greenhouse will be visible from the house. It becomes a genuine garden feature rather than just a growing space."

Matt's Installation Tip
With the painted Mallard's T-shaped base, ask your groundworker to check the base plan dimensions twice. The porch section creates a complex footprint that must be exact. I also recommend choosing a lighter paint colour for T-shaped models. The porch interior gets less natural light than a standard rectangular greenhouse. Lighter colours help reflect light back onto your plants.

What makes the Mallard Painted different from the oiled version?
The painted finish is factory-sprayed and included in the listed price. The oiled Swallow Mallard comes with a natural ThermoWood oil finish that will silver over time. The painted version provides a clean, uniform colour that lasts 5-8 years before needing a refresh. The underlying ThermoWood construction is identical on both versions.

What paint colours are available for the Mallard Painted?
Ten standard paint colours are available from Swallow's factory. Options include Lily White, Lulworth Blue, Vert De Terre, and Bracken. Also available are Olive, Railings, Anthracite, Mole's Breath, Purbeck Stone, and Oxford Stone. Custom colour matches are available for a small surcharge. The paint is sprayed in Swallow's Rotherham workshop for a smooth, professional finish.

How does the Mallard Painted compare to the Swan Painted?
The Mallard is 8ft wide while the Swan is 8ft 9 inches wide. Both are T-shaped orangery designs with factory-painted finishes. The Swan Painted offers a wider porch that can fit a small table and chairs. The Mallard suits gardens where you want a T-shape but available width is limited. Both share the same ThermoWood construction and 12-year warranty.
-
What base does a T-shaped Mallard need?
A flat, level concrete base is strongly recommended for T-shaped models. The porch section creates a more complex footprint than a standard rectangle. We supply a detailed base plan with every order showing exact dimensions. Our guides on concrete bases and paving slab bases cover both options.
