This is standard greenhouse glass with 2' x 2' panes that overlap and join with S clips. This glass breaks into shards.

Toughend Glass

Recommended! Toughened Glass is much stronger than Horticultural glass and won't crack. If it does break it disintegrates into hundreds of small pieces.

Installer's note: Build the Venus on a flat, square base measuring at least 1930mm x 2570mm. Small base errors make full-length glass and sliding doors much harder to align.

The Vitavia Venus 5000 is an 8x6 greenhouse with a green powder-coated frame. Its 3mm toughened panes run the full height of each glazed section. This gives cleaner sightlines than overlapping horticultural-glass panes.

Toughened glass is the sensible choice beside paths, play areas or busy family gardens. If broken, it crumbles into small granules rather than long shards. It still needs careful handling during assembly.

Is the Venus 5000 right for your garden?

Best for: buyers wanting an affordable 8x6 glass greenhouse in green. It includes toughened glazing, bracing, guttering and one roof vent.

Consider an upgrade if: a low threshold or taller doorway matters. The Venus has a 610mm x 1650mm door aperture.

Vitavia Venus 5000 or Apollo 5000?

Both models are 1930mm wide and use full-length 3mm toughened glass. The main differences are the base, doorway and height.

Choose the Venus when value matters most and a standard threshold is acceptable. Choose the Apollo for easier access and more headroom.

Base, ventilation and anchoring

An optional Vitavia steel base is the simplest route to a square, properly anchored Venus. On soil, level its corner posts and concrete them into place. Concrete or paving also works when the greenhouse is securely fixed to the finished base.

One manual roof vent is supplied. Add an automatic opener if nobody can ventilate the greenhouse during warm days. Our automatic vent opener guide explains fitting and adjustment.

The Venus 5000 was also sold under the Vermont name. This can help when matching older instructions or replacement parts.

Place on hard or soft ground! Our Vitavia steel bases come with corner posts for installation on soft ground. These 18-inch posts can be sunk into soil and concreted in place for stability. For hard surfaces like slabs or concrete, simply omit the posts.

Daughter and son-in-law helped me assemble it when they were free. I'd ordered the louvre window and there weren't any instructions with it or related to it, where and at what stage of assembly to fit it etc - so I messed up and it's still in the box! That's life. One 4' x 2' pane shattered for no apparent reason, except being moved from shade into hot sunlight, but as assembly was more than 14 days after delivery it wasn't covered by the guarantee. I'm still having a bit of trouble with the door and downspout arrangement (if we ever get rain!); need son-in-law to sort that out. Having said all that, my tomatoes and cucumbers are doing fine and the greenhouse will suit my needs, so don't be put off by my comments!

8x6 Green Vitavia Venus Greenhouse Toughened + Free Base

The greenhouse is well made and the directions worked well. It is worth checking every part for amounts as we were short of 2 angle brackets that made the base impossible to construct and therefore the rest of it until spares were sent.
It took 2 of us a day to put together and though fiddly at times wasn't difficult, a third person was needed to hold the frame up whilst bolting one section to another. The finished greenhouse is sturdy, windproof and is coping well with the weather Cornwall throws at it.
We're looking forward to actually growing veg in it.
