About our garden offices
A garden office gives you a dedicated workspace without the commute. Since 2020, demand for home offices has transformed the garden building market. We stock three tiers of garden office to match different budgets and needs: 44mm interlocking log cabins for the self-builder, Calmpod insulated buildings for year-round comfort, and Lichfield Crown premium offices with full insulation, electrics and composite cladding fitted.
Every model includes free UK mainland delivery. Log cabins arrive flat-packed for self-assembly. Calmpod and Lichfield models are professionally installed. All buildings fall under permitted development for most gardens, meaning no planning permission is required.
If you do not need a full office and want a lighter-use retreat, our summerhouses offer tongue and groove construction from £724. For the full collection of garden buildings, browse our garden rooms range.
Why we chose this range
"We only stock garden offices where the construction justifies the price. The Power 44mm log cabins use genuine interlocking logs, not thin panels screwed together. The walls are solid and draft-free. The Calmpod and Lichfield ranges go further with full insulation, double glazing and composite cladding. We turned down dozens of suppliers who could not meet our standards on timber thickness, weatherproofing and build quality."

Matt's Installation Tip: Electrics and Internet
Most garden offices need electricity for heating, lighting and your laptop. Running a dedicated circuit to an outbuilding is notifiable work under Part P of the Building Regulations. You must use a qualified electrician. Budget £400-£1,200 depending on the distance from your house. The Lichfield Crown range comes with electrics pre-wired, which saves this cost. For internet, a mesh WiFi system or a powerline-over-mains adaptor usually works for distances under 30 metres. Ethernet over SWA cable is the most reliable option for serious remote workers.
Do I Need Planning Permission for a Garden Office?
Most garden offices fall under permitted development and do not need planning permission. The building must be single storey, under 2.5m at the eaves if within 2m of a boundary, and must not cover more than 50% of your garden. It cannot be forward of the principal elevation of your house. You cannot sleep in it overnight (that would make it a dwelling, which requires planning permission). If you are in a conservation area, national park or AONB, check with your local planning authority first.
Frequently asked questions about garden offices
-
How much does a garden office cost?
Garden offices start from £4,399 for a Palmako log cabin. Power 44mm log cabins start from £5,759. Insulated Calmpod buildings start from £9,799. Premium Lichfield Crown offices with electrics start from £18,250. All prices include free UK mainland delivery.
-
Do I need planning permission for a garden office?
Most garden offices do not need planning permission. They fall under permitted development if they are single storey, under 2.5m at the eaves within 2m of a boundary, and do not cover more than 50% of the garden. You cannot use it as overnight accommodation.
-
Can I use a log cabin as a year-round office?
A 44mm log cabin is comfortable from March to October without insulation. For year-round use, add internal insulation (50mm Celotex between battens), a vapour barrier and plasterboard lining. This adds £500-£1,500 depending on size. Alternatively, choose a Calmpod or Lichfield model that comes insulated as standard.
-
How do I get electricity to a garden office?
Hire a Part P qualified electrician to run a dedicated circuit. This typically costs £400-£1,200 depending on distance from the house. The electrician will run SWA armoured cable underground to a mini consumer unit in the office. Lichfield Crown models come with electrics pre-wired.
-
What size garden office do I need?
For one desk and storage, a 12x10 (11m²) is sufficient. For two desks, choose 14x12 (15.6m²) or larger. For a small team of 3-4 people, you need 18x14 (23m²) or bigger. Allow 4-6m² per desk for comfortable working space including chair movement and storage.
-
What is the difference between a log cabin and an insulated garden office?
A log cabin uses interlocking solid timber walls. An insulated office has a framed wall with insulation sandwiched inside. Log cabins are cheaper and quicker to build but need additional insulation for winter use. Insulated offices (Calmpod, Lichfield) are comfortable year-round straight away. They cost more upfront but save on retrofitting insulation.
-
Do I need a base for a garden office?
Yes. A concrete pad or paving slab base is essential. For log cabins, the base must be perfectly level and raised 50-100mm above ground level. For Calmpod and Lichfield models, the installer will confirm base requirements before delivery. The base should extend 100mm beyond the building footprint on all sides.
