6ft Wide Wooden Greenhouses

About our 6ft wide wooden greenhouses

We stock 20 handcrafted 6ft wide wooden greenhouses from Swallow, the only UK manufacturer still using ThermoWood redwood pine. ThermoWood is kiln-heated to 212°C, which removes sugars and resins that attract rot and insects. The result is a frame that carries a 12-year warranty without annual preservative treatment. Every model includes 3mm toughened safety glass and automatic Bayliss XL roof vents. Standard features also cover a mortice-locking door, full-length staging, and free installation.

The range covers four product lines. The Swallow Kingfisher is the standard greenhouse, running from 6x4 to 6x20. The Swallow Cygnet adds a T-shaped front extension for extra headroom and display space. The Swallow Jay is a dedicated potting shed with solid timber panels replacing the glass on one side. Combination models pair a Kingfisher greenhouse with a 4ft attached shed. Prices start from £2,764 for the Kingfisher 6x4 and run to £9,653 for the Cygnet 6x19 T-shaped.

What does a wooden greenhouse cost compared to aluminium?

A 6ft wide wooden greenhouse costs £2,764 to £5,137, compared to £400, £1,200 for an equivalent aluminium frame. The price difference reflects the material quality and included installation. ThermoWood frames arrive fully erected by our team. Aluminium greenhouses are self-assembly. Over 15 years, the ThermoWood frame needs no preservative or replacement parts, while aluminium greenhouse clips and seals degrade. Frequently Asked Questions

• How much does a 6ft wide wooden greenhouse cost?

Prices range from £2,764 to £9,653 including free installation. The Swallow Kingfisher 6x4 is the entry point at £2,764. A mid-range Kingfisher 6x8 costs £3,150. Jay potting sheds start at £3,519 and the Cygnet T-shaped models start at £8,847. Painted finishes add £200, £400 depending on the greenhouse size.

• Do Swallow wooden greenhouses need painting or treating?

No. ThermoWood requires no preservative treatment. The heat-treatment process at 212°C permanently alters the cell structure of the redwood pine. This removes the sugars that attract rot and insects. The natural stain finish weathers to a silver-grey over 3-5 years. If you prefer colour, factory-applied paint in 9 shades is available at order. Neither finish needs annual treatment.

• What base does a 6ft wooden greenhouse need?

A level concrete pad or paving slab base is required. The base must extend 50mm beyond the frame on each side. Level tolerance is 10mm maximum across the full width. Our installation team checks the base on arrival and cannot proceed if it slopes beyond tolerance. Most customers pour a 100mm concrete pad. Our base guide covers the full process.

• How long does installation take?

Most 6ft models are installed in one day. Our two-person team erects the frame, glazes every pane, fits the staging, and tests the autovents. A Kingfisher 6x8 takes 4-5 hours. Larger models like the 6x20 or T-shaped Cygnet may require a second morning. We confirm the installation date 2 weeks before delivery.

• What is the difference between a Kingfisher and a Jay?

The Jay replaces glass on one side with solid timber panels. This creates a dedicated potting workspace with shelving and tool storage. The Kingfisher is fully glazed on all sides for maximum light. Both share the same ThermoWood frame, toughened glass, and 12-year warranty. Choose the Jay if you want a combined potting shed and greenhouse in one building.

• Can I add extras to my Swallow greenhouse?

Yes. Swallow offers a full range of made-to-match accessories. Options include extra staging, high-level shelving, additional roof vents, side vents, and dwarf walls. Cold frames and rainwater kits are also available. All accessories use ThermoWood timber and can be factory-fitted or added later.

• How long is the delivery wait for a Swallow greenhouse?

Current lead time is 8-12 weeks from order. Every Swallow greenhouse is made to order in their Yorkshire workshop. Painted models may add 1-2 weeks for the factory finish to cure. We confirm your installation date 2 weeks before delivery and offer morning or afternoon slots.
