We have installed more than 1,200 wooden greenhouses across the UK since 2012. We now stock timber from three makers. Swallow is handcrafted in Yorkshire from Finnish ThermoWood® with 3mm toughened glass, from £2,575. Palmako is built in Estonia from 18mm Nordic spruce with 4mm toughened glass, from £2,590. Norhage is engineered in Norway from Swedish pine with 6mm twin-wall polycarbonate, from £1,650. Every Swallow includes free professional installation.
Our own two-person team fits around 180 wooden greenhouses every year. A Swallow 6x8 takes us 4 to 6 hours. Swallow lead times run 8 to 12 weeks from order to install. Spring runs longer, and we book out by mid-January. Palmako and Norhage kits ship within about five weeks, flat-packed for self-assembly with free UK mainland delivery. Two people can build one over a weekend. Our most popular size is the 6ft wide wooden greenhouse, which accounts for just over 60% of orders. A timber greenhouse needs a flat, level base, or the door and vents will not sit square. Read our concrete base guide before you order. Timber sits alongside the other frame materials in our full greenhouses range. Aluminium greenhouses cost less, and lean-to greenhouses or the Norhage Vegg 300 range suit wall-mounted builds. A timber frame holds heat better than aluminium overnight, which matters most for winter growing.

We stock timber greenhouses from three makers, and they suit different budgets and plots. Swallow is built in Yorkshire from thermowood, a heat-treated timber that resists rot far better than untreated softwood. Prices start at £2,575. Palmako is made in Estonia from 18mm Nordic spruce on a 44 x 95mm post frame, glazed in 4mm toughened glass, from £2,590. Norhage is engineered in Norway from impregnated Swedish pine, with 6mm twin-wall polycarbonate, from £1,650. We have fitted timber greenhouses across the UK since 2012, so we know how they weather.
Only Swallow includes installation. We fit every Swallow wooden greenhouse free of charge south of Glasgow, so you skip the build day yourself. Palmako and Norhage arrive flat-packed for simple self-assembly, with free UK mainland delivery and clear instructions. Two people can build either over a weekend. Thermowood and impregnated pine both need almost no upkeep. A light coat of oil every few years keeps the finish looking smart. If you prefer a metal frame, see our aluminium greenhouses. For a decorative timber look, the Victorian greenhouses add traditional styling. For a wall-mounted build, see the Norhage Vegg 300 lean-to range.
Why We Chose This Range
"I picked Swallow because the thermowood frame keeps heat in better than any aluminium frame I have fitted. On a cold March morning the inside stays noticeably warmer. Palmako gives you 4mm toughened glass and thick spruce walls at a price most glasshouses cannot match, and you build it yourself. Norhage is the one I would pick for an exposed plot. The Gothic arch sheds snow and the twin-wall polycarbonate holds heat far better than a single pane."
— Matt, Founder of Greenhouse Stores💡 Tip: Site your wooden greenhouse on a level base before delivery. A slab or concrete pad keeps the frame square and stops damp rising into the timber.
Give the thermowood a coat of clear timber oil within the first season. It seals the joints and keeps the grain looking fresh. We do this on every install and the wood lasts for years.
Palmako and Norhage kits are self-assembly, so the base has to be ready the day the lorry arrives. Use concrete or paving slabs, checked level across the full footprint. A twisted base makes the glass hard to seat and the doors hard to hang. Get it right and two people can put either kit up over a weekend.
Best For: Most home growers wanting a warm, good-looking greenhouse with free fitting.
Why I Recommend It: The Kingfisher 6x4 suits the average plot and we fit it free south of Glasgow. The thermowood frame holds heat well and the toughened glass is safe near children.
Price: from £2,764
Best For: The keen grower who wants staging down both walls and is happy to build it.
Why I Recommend It: The 8ft x 12ft footprint takes a path plus benching on both sides. You get 8.2m2 of growing space and 4mm toughened glass throughout, so it grows like a proper glasshouse.

Three timbers: Swallow thermowood, Palmako Nordic spruce, and Norhage impregnated Swedish pine. Thermowood is heat-treated, so it resists rot and warping without chemicals. Palmako uses 18mm tongue-and-groove spruce boards on a 44 x 95mm post frame. Norhage pine is pressure treated at the factory and shaped into Gothic arches.
Free installation comes with every Swallow wooden greenhouse south of Glasgow. Our fitters handle the full build on site and you only need a level base ready. Palmako and Norhage do not include installation. Both are supplied flat-packed for self-assembly with free UK mainland delivery.
Yes, both are straightforward self-assembly kits for two people over a weekend. Palmako panels are pre-cut tongue-and-groove spruce that slot into a post frame. Norhage arches are pre-formed plywood ribs that bolt to the pine frame. Have the base ready before the lorry arrives.
Swallow uses 3mm toughened glass and Palmako uses 4mm toughened glass. Norhage is glazed in 6mm twin-wall polycarbonate, with 10mm and 16mm upgrades for colder plots. Twin-wall traps a layer of air, so it holds heat better than a single pane and will not shatter.
Very little upkeep is needed on any of the three ranges. A coat of clear timber oil every few years keeps the finish smart. Thermowood and impregnated pine do not need yearly painting. Palmako is sold pressure treated or factory-painted grey, so the paint is already on when it arrives.
Yes, timber frames hold heat better than metal. The wood acts as natural insulation and plants get more protection on cold nights. The Norhage twin-wall polycarbonate adds a second layer of insulation on top of that.
Swallow carries a 12-year manufacturer warranty. Palmako Emilia carries 5 years on the timber and workmanship. Norhage carries 5 years on the frame and 10 years on the polycarbonate. Glazing is excluded from timber warranties, as is normal for greenhouses.
A 6ft wide model suits most gardens. It gives room for staging down one side and a path. Larger Swallow Raven, Palmako Emilia L and Norhage Tre 300 models suit serious growers.
